The Betrayal of Palestinian Journalists: Western Media as Partners in Genocide based on Chris Hedges.

August 31, 2025

Apparently, journalism has been redefined. Once upon a time, it meant chasing the truth through danger, discomfort, and sometimes death. Today? It means parroting whatever the Israeli military WhatsApps into your inbox — preferably before happy hour at the hotel bar.

There are, of course, two species of war correspondents. The first is endangered: Palestinian journalists who run toward the rubble, who interview people screaming under collapsed homes, who dare to record the massacres Israel insists never happened. Their reward? Being labeledHamas operatives” before being assassinated, often with their entire families for good measure. Israel has killed more than 270 journalists in Gaza since October 7th a world record in media freedom, if “media freedom” means “freedom from living journalists.”

Then there’s the second species: the Great Western Press Corps. These are the brave souls who risk paper cuts from press releases. They strap on helmets and flak jackets to report from the Gaza border fence — where the biggest threat is sunburn. They nod solemnly at IDF briefings, scribble down fairy tales about “terrorist cameras” and “beheaded babies,” and ship the lies straight to your breakfast table. Pulitzer-worthy stuff.

Consider this journalistic gem: when Reuters cameraman Hussam al-Masri and his colleagues were killed in a “double tap” strike on a Gaza hospital, the headlines read:

  • Israel Says Strike Targeted Hamas Camera” (AP)
  • IDF Claims Hospital Strike Was Aimed at Hamas Camera” (CNN)
  • “Initial Inquiry Says Hamas Camera Was Target” (Reuters).

Yes, you read that right. Hamas cameras. Terrifying weapons of mass documentation. Tripods of terror. Maybe next week, we’ll learn about the Al-Qassam Lens Cap Brigade.

Or take Al Jazeera’s Anas Al Sharif, blown apart with three colleagues in a media tent. Reuters headlined it: Israel Kills Al Jazeera Journalist It Says Was Hamas Leader.” Because of course — if you’re Palestinian and own a microphone, congratulations: you’re automatically on the IDF kill list.

And the Western press? They eat this garbage with a silver spoon. They know it’s lies — everyone does — but truth doesn’t buy access, and access buys careers. You don’t get invited to IDF dog-and-pony shows by questioning “terrorist cameras.” You get invited by nodding like a bobblehead while soldiers walk you through a “secret Hamas tunnel” conveniently located under a children’s hospital.

Meanwhile, Palestinian reportersthe real journalists — leave behind video wills because they know they’ll be next. But don’t worry, the Western press will clean up the narrative: “Israel claims deceased journalist was terrorist, and also, probably invented the camera.”

This isn’t journalism. It’s stenography in Kevlar. It’s propaganda with a press badge. It’s the moral equivalent of holding a ladder while Israel hangs the truth from a tree.

So let’s dispense with the fairy tale: Western reporters are not neutral observers. They are accomplices. They launder Israeli lies into “balanced reporting.” They mock their dead Palestinian colleagues by amplifying the slanders used to justify their murder. They betray not only journalism but humanity itself.

And when the rubble settles, history won’t remember them as reporters. It will remember them as the press corps that mistook genocide for a press conference.

The End of Zionism? Welcome to the Funeral Nobody Wants to Admit Is Overdue

Of course. Haaretz recently published an opinion piece by Ithamar Handelman -Smith titled “ Some Say It’s the End of Zionism, and I Say That’s All Right .” And what impeccable timing: as Israel carries out a near-two-year campaign of siege, famine, and bombardment in Gaza — slaughtering families, burying aid workers with their ambulances, and literally starving children to death — someone in Israel finally whispers the unspeakable: maybe Zionism, that 20th-century project of “ Jewish salvation ,” has outlived its moral shelf life. Bravo. The house is burning, bodies are scattered in the street, and the philosopher shows up with a garden hose . Zionism: Success Story or Crime Scene? Handelman-Smith argues that Zionism achieved its success : a Jewish state, a safe haven, a fortress against the ghosts of Europe’s crimes . But like every “ success story ” drenched in other people’s blood , it didn’t age well. What began as refuge turned into domination; what was called “ ...

God’s Favorite Real Estate Agents: Smotrich, Ben Gvir, and the Holy Land Realty Circus

Forget Wall Street. Forget Silicon Valley. The hottest property market today is Occupied Palestine , where homes are not sold with contracts but sanctified with bulldozers, blessings, and bullets. The chief brokers are well known: Bezalel Smotrich , Israel’s Finance Minister, and Itamar Ben Gvir , its National Security Minister. Smotrich doesn’t bother with diplomacy anymore. He boasts that 3,400 new settlement units will “ bury” Palestinian statehood . That’s not zoning — that’s divine grave-digging . Ben Gvir, meanwhile, provides the “ Home Security Package ,” arming settlers like crusader knights on hilltop fortresses and declaring it holy work . All of this would be bad enough if it were just Israeli extremists playing God’s real estate agents . But then came the shocker — the endorsement from the world’s highest court. Enter Judge Julia Sebutinde : a Ugandan jurist, the first African woman to sit on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) , today its Vice-President ,...

Gaza’s Famine: The World Watches Starvation as a Weapon of War

By Vivian Yee, The New York Times (Aug. 22, 2025) — Reflections and Analysis It is now official: Gaza City and its surrounding areas are in famine. Not “at risk of famine.” Not “approaching famine.” But famine itself — starvation, acute malnutrition, and death. At least half a million people in Gaza Governorate are enduring th e most extreme conditions that the world’s top hunger monitoring group — the U.N.-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (I.P.C.) — measures. With rare exceptions, the other two million residents of Gaza are also suffering severe hunger. The report is unambiguous: famine in Gaza is entirely man-made . It is not drought. It is not nature. It is the direct result of Israel’s blockade of food and aid, relentless bombardment, and the collapse of healthcare, water, and agriculture. “ The time for debate and hesitation has passed. Starvation is present and is rapidly spreading.” — I.P.C. Report By September, famine is expected to engul...

“Custody of the Crime Scene”: Gaza, Genocide, and the Tyranny of Narrative Control

By Malik Mukhtar (www.ainnbeen.blogspot.com) “ Netanyahu is desperate to occupy Gaza because he wants custody of the crime scene. ” A sentence. A sledgehammer . A truth most dare not utter—except one man did. And the internet nearly gasped in unison. Dr. Rudolph "Butch" Ware , historian, Black radical, artist, and former U.S. Green Party vice-presidential candidate, dropped this line on X like a moral grenade . Ware isn’t your average academic behind a dusty podium. He's a professor of African and Islamic history at UC Santa Barbara —yes. But he’s also a relentless voice against imperialism, settler-colonialism, and sanitized silence. A scholar who doesn’t just teach the history of empires— he tears at their living seams. His post wasn’t just a critique. It was a charge sheet. “ Zionists want to sanitize the carnage… They know if international observers are given unfettered access to Gaza , they will find an Auschwitz on every block —and that will be the end of...

E-1: The 12 Kilometers That Could Bury a Palestinian State

Yesterday’s announcement was not just another bureaucratic step —it was a political earthquake . Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich confirmed the green light for 3,401 new housing units in the controversial E-1 area , a strip of land linking Ma’ale Adumim to East Jerusalem . This is no ordinary settlement expansion. The E-1 plan is designed to create an unbroken Israeli-built corridor east of Jerusalem — severing the West Bank’s north (Ramallah) from its south (Bethlehem) and cutting East Jerusalem off from its Palestinian hinterland . In Smotrich’s own words, the move will “ bury the idea of a Palestinian state” by establishing facts on the ground . Why E-1 Matters The E-1 zone —roughly 12 square kilometers —has been a red line in every major peace negotiation since the 1990s . Successive Israeli governments held back full development due to heavy pressure from the United States and the European Union . Until now, it contained little more than an Israeli poli...
