💔 Another Week in Gaza: Where Even Hope Is Under Siege

For the people of Gaza, June is not a summer of life—but a furnace of loss. It has been nearly nine months since war shattered every corner of this small coastal strip, and yet, the world continues to look away. In this silence, children starve, mothers bury their sons, and schools turn into shelters, then into targets.
UNRWA Situation Report #175 (5–11 June 2025) paints a picture more terrifying than fiction. It is not just a humanitarian crisis—it is a man-made, meticulously sustained nightmare. Here is what the world must not ignore:
🔥 A Nation Displaced, A People Broken
- 1.9 million people—90% of Gaza's population—are displaced.
- Many families have been uprooted 10+ times, moving from one bombed-out ruin to another.
- With over 317 UNRWA staff killed, even aid workers are not spared.
“We are working in a warzone that does not even recognize the laws of war,” one UN official admitted.
🏥 Healthcare on Its Knees
- Just 5 of 22 UNRWA health centres remain functional.
- 47% of medical supplies are gone. Soon, so will the rest.
- Pregnant women, cancer patients, injured children—they knock on clinic doors that no longer exist.
🧠 Healing Young Minds While the World Bombs Their Childhood
Over 730,000 people—most of them children—have received psychosocial support from UNRWA. But how do you counsel a child who has lost everything? What therapy reaches a girl who watched her brother die under rubble?
In makeshift “classrooms” carved into the ruins of schools, over 294,000 children are being taught the alphabet of survival. But even education is not safe—182 UNRWA premises lie in military zones, many of them bombed.
🍞 Starving Under Siege
Before the ceasefire collapsed in January, UNRWA was feeding 2 million people. But since March 2, not a single food truck has been allowed in.
- UNRWA has run out of flour.
- Food parcels are gone.
- Parents boil leaves. Babies cry with nothing to soothe their hunger but dust.
💧 When Water Is a Weapon
UNRWA provides 3 million litres of water daily, yet it’s still not enough. In some areas, the pesticides have run out, and disease spreads with the rats. The sanitation crisis now rivals the hunger crisis.
💬 “We clean manholes to prevent disease, even as drones hover above us,” a sanitation worker said.
💬 “We deliver water, but can’t deliver safety.”
🇵🇸 West Bank: A Silent Parallel Horror
While Gaza burns, the West Bank bleeds.
- 943 Palestinians killed since October.
- Entire refugee camps in Jenin and Tulkarm have been emptied under Israeli military orders.
- Children are rounded up, families bulldozed out of existence. All under the world’s indifferent gaze.
🧭 Where Do We Go From Here?
We must name what is happening: It is not collateral damage. It is a dismantling of a people—their health, their dignity, their future. The siege is not only physical. It is psychological. It is moral. And it implicates every government, every institution, and every human being who remains silent.
UNRWA continues to stand in the fire, delivering aid with bare hands, empty warehouses, and hearts that refuse to quit. But they cannot carry Gaza alone.
